Here’s What They Advised Us:

  • Austin Program - June 2017.jpgWhen selecting board members, focus on diversity of experience and mission alignment.
  • Check for conflicts of interest every six months or sooner.
  • Don’t take money from people if you don’t want their opinion.
  • If boards become too operational and don’t understand that they are supposed to be strategic, you lose ground.
  • Be accurate, but strategic, with your meeting minutes as they could be used against your company in court.
  • Be aware of what you put into presentations.
  • If you hear something that is illegal in the boardroom and don’t say anything, then you are complicit.
  • Be on the same page with your CEO before a board meeting.
  • Be brief, be bright, be gone!
