The Faces Of CFOLC ~ Meet Katy Todd
Our team members make all the difference! The CFO Leadership Council (CFOLC), established in 2006, has a team that spans across the US & Canada supporting each other, our chapters & national initiatives 100% virtually. Through these interviews written in their own words, you’ll meet these innovative, driven and creative team members who make CFOLC what it is today.
Katy Todd, Manager, Partner Relations, is an intregral part of connecting our strategic partners with our broader finance community. She’s been a bright star since she joined the team six years ago.. Here’s her story.

Florence University of The Arts, 2018
Katy, tell us your story. Your path here at CFOLC & beyond
Though I am one of the youngest at CFOLC, I actually am one of the veteran employees. At seventeen I was looking for part-time work, and the council was in the middle of expanding into NYC and Philly. I never imagined it would turn into a six-year journey, but I wouldn’t change anything.
Through college and beyond I’ve really ‘grown up’ with the company. Jack has gone above and beyond for me and assembled an incredible team. I am humbled to work alongside such talented leaders.
On a personal note, I was born and raised in Foxboro, Massachusetts and eventually made my way down to Tampa, Florida for under grad where I have been the past five years. I love it here, but definitely see myself relocating at some point. Maybe west coast.
How did you get your career start, first job? Do you have a mentor?

Prague 2018
Since transitioning to full time at CFOLC post grad, I owe a lot of my professional success to Karyn Egeland. She insists she is not my boss, but a colleague – so I guess we can compromise on mentor.
“There is a mutual mentoring that happens with me and Katy. I covet her perspective and her contributions to helping me expand my old school thinking. Katy’s curiosity, innate listening abilities, and willingness to put it out there at this stage in her career is remarkable. I am the beneficiary of her wisdom.“

UTampa Graduation
How are you all staying afloat during COVID? Any lessons learned or silver linings?
Humility. And staying active. I’ve always been a runner and being in Florida has definitely helped with the nice weather. I also live with my best friend from college- the two of us working remote together for three months ended up being a blessing in disguise.

Morocco, 2018
“Coaches often refer to versatile athletes as a Swiss-Army knife to explain the many roles they can fulfill. I feel that way about Katy. I hired her when she was only 16 years old to perform data entry, but since then she has done almost every job in the CFOLC, including maintaining the website, managing our social media presence, and working directly with our strategic partners. She is the rare person who is very detail-oriented while also able to focus on the big picture strategic issues. On a personal note, it’s been great to watch her evolve from a quiet teenager to a competent and confident professional.”

Seattle Chapter Program 2019
Do you have a favorite CFOLC story?
I was lucky enough to be back home in Boston last year to attend the livestream at Fenway Park with Tim Zue, CFO of the Red Sox. It was awesome to see something on that scale come together. And, Ken Richard if you’re reading this, I hope you’re not still mad at me for robbing you of your Red Sox tickets.
If you had a crystal ball, what lies ahead?
Two of my favorite things – music and travel- are at a bit of standstill right now. Hoping for a future where we can safely return to enjoying both.

Grand Canyon
Favorite jam song to pump you up in the morning?
Frontlines by Zeds Dead. Or anything Zeds Dead really. They are definitely my go-to. I got the chance to see them at Red Rocks Ampitheatre in Boulder, CO last year and ended up meeting them the day before. Something really special.
Fun fact we may not know?
I’ve been a vegetarian for two years, no red meat for the past six. I don’t see myself ever going back. Maybe vegan is next…
Any final takeaway for leaders out there?
One of my favorite mantras is ‘fate loves the fearless.’ I think there is a lot of truth to that – always lead with courage and you can never lose.
