The CFO’s Unique Role In Strategy

CFOs are recognizing that today’s business landscape requires new strategies fast. These new strategies will require them to make hard decisions that lack complete information.  Leading CFOs see this as an opportunity to heighten their “Strategist” role.   These CFOs are bringing their financial acumen to guide the executive leadership team and Board to confidently make strategy decisions. These include how the required investments of the strategy will be financed, key financial measures the company must realize, and the company’s financial capacity to absorb a miss. When fulfilling this role, CFOs enable their organization to confidently take-on their strategy.

Everyone is now facing a big strategy re-set. From retrench to leap forward fast. CFOs who proactively point their company to the areas offering the best financial gain are the ones who will be winners.
John Gimpert, Conference Co-Chair & National Content Director, CFO Leadership Council

In this new reality which CFOs will succeed?  It will be those who bring an adaptive, forward looking, inclusive leadership style.  It will be those that have an innovative “art of the possible” mindset.  Are informed capital allocators with a balanced opportunity to risk taking perspective.  It will be those who able to balance their role as operator and strategist.

Play that essential role and bring the finance lens to the strategy discussion
To bring that lens into focus, you need to continuously ask questions.  Are you driving the right decisions?   Are you fulfilling your unique role and shaping a successful strategy?  Are you telling the finance story effectively?  Bring the full force of finance into the conversation.  Raise it above the politics to make objective financial & strategic decisions.

Continue shaping your successful strategy
